The Power of my Menstruation

A Poem

Sitting by the campfire
I feel its raw power
and the raw power within me

quiet.
slow.
strong.

a wild woman surrounded by the darkness
of the womb
I can rest by the fire’s side

warm.
held.
nourished.

allowing myself to be nurtured by the quiet,
the sounds of the crackling fire
connected in spirit to my menstruating siblings
all women and menstruators together
connected horizontally in the Now
and vertically across all time and dimensions

connected to my body
connected to my primal self
my instincts
deeply connected to Life itself

a sacred pause

a wild woman
hair open
hanging down in strands
a little dishevelled
and maybe with a bit of dirt

but stunning
and brimming with the raw power
of my own life force

my pain cracks me open
the absolute breaking apart of who I am
destruction, so that something new can be built from the shattered pieces

uncomfortable as it is – THAT is the power of my menstruation
