My favourite oracle card decks

I myself did not dare to deal or work with oracle cards more closely for many years – and also had little interest in them. On the one hand this was due to my upbringing, my prejudices; in my family this “esoteric stuff” was not given much attention or even devalued – what counted was what could be scientifically proven, no “humbug” like tarot, astrology or fortune telling, so I didn’t dare to explore this more subtle and intuitive side of me. On the other hand, even though I once held tarot cards in my hands as a teenager, I never really found a connection to them. And you have to keep in mind that at that time, there simply wasn’t such a large selection of oracle cards available as there is today.

My love for the cards only emerged a few years ago when I stumbled upon the cards “Earth Magic”. After a longer break I had started to take yoga classes again, to get closer to myself, closer to nature and Mother Earth. So I found these cards (or they found me?) and immediately felt a deep connection to them, their pictures, their messages. (For me) They were not abstract symbols/messages like “Ace of Cups” or “5 of Swords”, whose meaning you had to somehow learn by heart (Update: I recently came across “The Light Seer’s Tarot” and OMG, I love these tarot cards, and through their beautiful imagery, tarot finally starts making sense to me!). They were natural phenomena, events directly taken from life, from nature, which were beautifully illustrated and whose immanent meaning was immediately apparent to me. This way I got to know oracle cards from a completely new angle and would not want to miss them from my life!

How I use oracle cards in my life

Most often I use them as inspiration, as an opportunity to look at a situation in my life from a new perspective. I think about how I can apply the message of the card in a very practical way – and then see if it helps. I don’t think it’s about the drawn card having to offer a precise answer to my question asked. Rather, I try to interpret and use the message in a way that works for my life, in a way that offers guidance, that makes sense in my life.

In the following I’d like to present you my favourite decks of oracle cards. I work with them on a regular basis, e.g. every dark moon I draw a Goddess from the “Goddess Oracle” deck and let its message accompany me through the lunar month. Or for the “Twelve Holy Nights” in December I draw one card every day as an oracle for the corresponding month of the following year – for this, I love the messages of the deck “Earth Magic”.

Working with them I instantly feel the connection to the world around me, to other humans, animals, plants, stones, Water, Fire, Air and to Earth itself. The cards are based on nature, its rhythms and phenomena, and as a child of this Earth, fundamentally cyclic in nature, I find it only natural and authentic to ask for guidance from it. The beautiful images and texts help me to become aware of and reconnect with my own cycles.

Engaging in all these qualities that every single one of us carries inside her, I discover more and more what womanhood/being female means for me personally and get inspiration on how I want to live that out today.
